Cape Town at a glance

Cape Town, according to many people, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world and it's real estate market continues to attract investors - both local and foreign. The city comprises of three main areas, namely: City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard and Southern Suburbs.

The City Bowl offers character filled homes and luxury apartments that are situated high up on the slopes of the surrounding mountains. Geographically shaped like a "bowl", the area is surrounded by Table Mountain, Lion's Head, Signal Hill and Devil's Peak and leads down to the Central Business District and into the V&A Waterfront. The area is rich in history and very well located for those looking to live centrally. Furthermore, the natural barriers limit the space available to develop and for these reasons, property in the area is also in high demand. The larger suburbs within the City Bowl include Higgovale, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Gardens and Vredehoek.

There is a good mix of old and new property available with the older properties resembling the area's rich architectural heritage. Large villas line the upper slopes of Lion's Head and Signal Hill, possessing spectacular views of the city and Table Mountain as a backdrop. Access to the beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton are only a short drive away. Today, the City Bowl is known as a vibrant area with bustling street lined shops, trendy restaurants, bars and businesses.

Nestled between the Cape Peninsula National Park and the mighty Atlantic Ocean, lies the Atlantic Seaboard. The area consists of several suburbs which include Mouille Point, Green Point, Three Anchor Bay, Sea Point, Fresnaye, Bantry Bay, Clifton, Camps Bay and Bakoven. These suburbs are conveniently located just minutes from Cape Town's Central Business District, the many white sandy beaches along the coast and the renowned V&A Waterfront. Property here is very sought after and due to the limited supply available, prices have continued to remain above the national average and in many cases the prices fetched are some of the highest on the continent.

If you look carefully, there are many new, upmarket residential and commercial buildings springing up around town and these can offer exciting opportunities for the discerning investor. On the other end of the scale, those looking for a "renovator's dream" can opt for an older property in one of the many suburbs in the vicinity. By using the solid foundations of old and integrating new age design and materials, you can transform an old property into the family home you have always wanted.

The Southern Suburbs of Cape Town are well situated for those looking for larger plot sizes, outdoor living and a quieter, more suburban lifestyle. Property prices here generally offer better value for money when compared to the Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl and it is thus suited to young, professional couples seeking more space to accommodate their needs. Although located further away from Cape Town's Central Business District and the beaches of the Atlantic Seaboard, the Southern Suburbs certainly has its list of attractions. The breathtaking natural beauty in the form of mountains, forests, parks, winelands and rivers is a large selling point for anyone looking to invest in the area.

The popular suburbs within the Southern Suburbs are Claremont, Kenilworth, Newlands, Rondebosch, Wynberg, Plumstead, Constantia and Bishopscourt. The suburbs have exciting opportunities and an array of attractions on offer each with its own appeal and personality. If space, greenery and peace and quiet are your preferences, then look no further.
